Marrying The Government

If we rather celibacy than wrong marriage, can we then extrapolate the concept a tad further – better anarchy than wrong government?

Just some crazy hypothesis running through my mind…

How should Christians officers biblically respond under the Nazi rule?
Submit to Hitler or tender mass resignation?

Does the active third option exist?

Yet I sincerely wonder, will there ever be a scenario that biblically justifies a revolution, revolt, rebellion?

    Much food for thought…
    It really made my day.
    Thank you.

  3. Gosh bro! i think i’ll post a very long comment here… interesting question you posed, bro – esp since I’m doing HopeSem’s Christian Ethics course right now. so haha i’ll give my ten-cents’ worth…

i think the Bible has three simple imperatives with regards to this:
    1. submit to the authorities in whatever isn’t disallowed by God (romans 13):

Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

    2. resist the authorities in whatever is disallowed by God, but also with gentleness and respectfulness (
    3. pray for our authorities. (1 timothy 2)

Active revolution, revolt, rebellion… i dun think God will want that at all… hmm… ultimately, the key to transforming the world is not through the ways of the world (e.g. wars and revolutions), but through transforming the hearts of men.

The kingdom of God is not of this world – it starts within the hearts of men. And that’s what will really transform the world. So… perhaps we should talk no longer of revolution, but of redemption.

After all, revolution seeks to turn the world upside-down, but Christ came to turn an upside-down world right-side up. Every generation talk of revolution, but only Christ and the Church are able to talk of redemption.

So, redemption’s the real revolution. =)
